Uniqlo @ Bugis+

Hey guys!

GSS is ongoing now! Be sure to head down to town and grab some of those great deals. I’ve splurged on some apparel in preparation for next term and boy is my heart aching. But still, it’s not too bad if you get them on a sale, right?

I was looking for some cheap clothes at bugis street the other day when I noticed that Illuma was gone! Ah, not “gone” per se, but rather it’s renovated and goes by this new name:  Bugis + 

Bugis + is currently under the management of CapitaMalls Asia Limited.

Uniqlo had the grand opening of their largest store on 8 June 10am.

This will be their 7th outlet in Singapore and the first one to be located on street-level, no less! This store has double stories and spans an area of 20,000 square feet.

I LOVE UNIQLO! They have clothes for all ages, ranging from kids to teens to adults. They have awfully cute tees with those cartoon characters that I absolutely adore to bits. Not forgetting timeless basics and fitting bottoms! Oh oh and they have bedroom slippers, innerwear and the likes. Seems like they have everything to offer.

And the best part?
The prices are so reasonable!
With that quality one would expect them to charge more but no! You can get tops ranging from $20-30 and bottoms from $40 onwards. That’s the usual price but always be on the lookout for offers. I own two pairs of denim jeans which cost me only $80 for both of them. What a steal man.

So, anyway, I managed to get a chance to interview with Uniqlo sales assistant, Felicia this afternoon.

Me (D): Hi Felicia, may I know how long have you been working at Uniqlo?
Felicia (F): About a month or so. I was hired for this particular outlet actually, so it’s my second day over here (Bugis +) 

D: How do you find this store? It’s supposedly the largest outlet in Singapore, yes?
F: It’s … Good I guess? Yeah. 

D: Hm, what kind of customers do you usually meet at Uniqlo?
F: They mostly come in groups. Large groups of friends. 

D: Alright, do you wear Uniqlo apparel yourself?
F: Yeah I do! I like their jeans and maybe some long sleeved shirts. 

D: Ohhhh yes, I’m wearing a pair of their jeans, in fact! (Showed them to Felicia) 
 

D: Tell me more about the collborations that they have. Which one do you like the most?
F: Uniqlo has many, such as collaborations with Disney, UU, Hello kitty… Disney? 

D: Oh so do you like Hello Kitty then?
F: Eh, no. I like the the Cocacola one. 

D: Ohhhh that’s interesting! Never knew they had that, so is there like a huge Cocacola logo right in the middle of the shirt? (I was pretty excited about this)  

F: Yeah.

D: Ok, could you describe Uniqlo in 3 words?
F: stylish despite being casual.

Interviewed a customer at the outlet too.

 Tiffany, a 19 year old.

D: Hi, is this your first time shopping at this outlet?
T: Yes. 

D: Do you always shop at Uniqlo? How do you find their style?
T: If I see anything nice from Uniqlo then I would buy them. Hmm, like kind of casual? They have many plain shirts. 

D: What kind of clothes do you buy here? Their own brands or collaboration brands?
T: Oh they have collaboration brands?! 

D: Yeah, as in those shirts with cartoon characters, etc
T: I think I’d usually get those basic tees/long sleeves. Their clothes are quite fitting for me. 

D: What collaboration do you look forward to seeing Uniqlo with?
T: Hmmmmm. I don’t know…. Marvel? Hahahah! I like the Avengers!
D: (gets excited because I like Captain America)

That’s all for the short interviews! Didn’t want to disturb the staff further, left them to attend to the crazy crowd. Phew, boy was I glad to get out of everyone’s way.


Better go grab some friends and head down over to Bugis + for some retail therapy! 

All but skin deep

Hello there all you lovely readers! 

How’s your week so far? I’m having a great one since it’s the holidays and all.
Speaking of which, let me do a simple introduction here.

This is Dai Qian here and I’m gonna be one of the writers for gossipavenue! Yes and that’s my full name. It seems to be a mouthful but that’s not the point here!

 Anyway, so I stumbled upon this amazing news article that made me think twice about the definition of beauty. What if I told you that this pretty girl here:

 Nope, it wasn’t the magic of photoshop this time round. (We’ll probably talk about that later on) It was nothing but purely Cassandra Bankson’s amazing make-up skills. Wow. I swear I was absolutely blown away upon watching her tutorial videos on YouTube.

I’m sure she’d have helpful tips for all of us ladies out there. So I must admit I’m full of respect for her, considering how she overcame her weakness and land herself in a job that most girls would kill to have, no less. Yes! That lady up there is a model! Well done :’) That said, it wasn’t easy, in all honestly, to be having dreadful skin conditions and still be strong enough to face it and deal with it. The 19 year-old was brave enough to reveal her true bare face in front of her 6 million subscribers on YouTube. How many of us would do that? I would have just ran into a closet and hide myself in there for the rest of my pathetic life unless some miracle potion were to be invented to cure acne in a blink of an eye. Okay HAHAH that was some exaggeration on my part but…… you get the drift right? Doesn’t that give us ladies some hope here? I mean, hey! Anyone can look good with make-up now, right? Just a dash of powder here and there, a trail of eyeliner and a pump of lip gloss.

Personally, I don’t use make-up.
Firstly, it’s a chore to remove, costs a pile (those which are better in quality) and ruins complexions. That’s not to say that I’m completely against cosmetics. I know some people like Cassandra do use them not purely for the sake of vanity but they do it out of need. She was forced into making herself look “acceptable” in response to the hurtful words she received. It’s just that the world is such a complete superficial place that everyone is struggling to catch up with each other’s perception of “perfection”. Some people have all the luck. But I believe we were given equal qualities. Some visible while some hidden. Well, if not for society, Cassandra wouldn’t have discovered her abilities and she wouldn’t become what she is today.
So I guess all in all we still have this harsh reality to thank for the brilliance of humanity.

Insomnia!!!!

Hi all! Anyone's still awake at this wee hour on a friday morning?

Yes, it's TGIF! But friday is still an official work day, but my body is screwing up. After tossing and turning on my pretty pink bed, my eyes just refuse to shut, my brain just refuses to rest. As much as I'm tired, I just can't get to sleep. This is so frustrating! I'm sure everyone has encounter such situation in their life. So anyhow, I just did a quick google search, and guess what did I find?!

Insomnia?
Insomnia refers to a difficulty in achieving or maintaining normal sleep. There are two basic forms of insomnia. In sleep-onset insomnia a person has a difficult time falling asleep. In sleep-maintenance insomnia a person suffers from frequent or early awakening.

What causes Insomnia?
The most common causes of insomnia are psychological: depression, anxiety, and tension. If psychological factors do not seem to be the cause, various foods, drinks, and medications may be responsible. There are numerous compounds in food and drink (most notably caffeine) that can interfere with normal sleep. There are also over three hundred drugs that interfere with normal sleep.

What dietary factors are important in Insomnia?
Eliminate caffeine. It is essential that the diet be free of natural stimulants such as caffeine and related compounds. Coffee, as well as less obvious caffeine sources such as soft drinks, chocolate, coffee-flavored ice cream, hot cocoa, and tea, must all be eliminated. Even small amounts of caffeine such as those found in decaffeinated coffee or chocolate, may be enough to cause insomnia in some people.



CHOCOLATE!

I finally found the cause! It must be the huge amount of chocolate that I consumed last evening. I was at a private event earlier, and I ate chocolate, drink chocolate, everything was so hocolate-ty.
Now I'm regretting it. I need to sleep desperately! :(

FIT IS THE NEW SKINNY!

Hola! I'm feeling extremely chirpy this morning so i've decided to come up with a blog entry to motivate you readers.

Fit is the new skinny! Thinspo are no longer in trend, fit is! Ogling at all the models with tight bodies and defined abs make me feel like jumping off my couch now and head for the gym right away.

So girls out there, if you are still dying to be skinny... Skinny really isn't pretty. When you lose weight, you lose your boobs and bums too. In fact, when you want to shed your fats, they are usually the first to go. I never understand girls who want to be skinny, anorexia alike etc.
Hit the gym if you want to lose weight, you will feel much better after working out. And the best part is, you can still eat whatever you like in moderation without having to starve yourself.

Speaking of which, I think I'm going to start hitting the gym next week onwards. And no, i'm will not procrastinate.

Hi all! Remember I mentioned about a new ice cream launch in my previous entry? I'm sooo thrilled! Haagen-Dazs launches its new summer flavour - Summer Berries & Cream.
